is it too much to ask?

*taps mic*

Twas wondering:

why is it when Hollywood makes movies about angels, they speak like Princess Diana and look like footballers for Manchester United? would it kill them to make a movie where an angel looks like me?

that being said, i'm probably gonna see this movie. because the angels look like footballers for Manchetser United.

is it really all you need?

VH-1 has been showing The Beatles Anthology over the last week or so and i finally watched it with the Mister. watching the show, i was really struck by how much the Beatles' music has become a everyday part of our lives. i mean, we know songs we may not have even realized were by the Beatles. we've heard songs in commercials, in movies, covered by other artists...these guys are everywhere.

and if you owned that catalog of music (coughMichaelJackoncough!) well then....you'd be doing quite nicely financially, now wouldn't you?

the episode we watched discussed the Beatles later music, focusing on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts' Club Band. imagine my shock to find out the Mister had NEVER heard All the Lonely People!...which is interesting because that should be his theme song.

and then imagine my shock at just how moved i was listening to All You Need is Love...

Mick Jagger is in this video a little after the 2:30 mark.

do you remember a time when music actually used instruments? when you needed much more than auto-tune and a rich boyfriend to be considered a singer?

from now on when i'm looking at video footage of town hall meeting attendees going batshit crazy over the prospect of getting health insurance, i'm going to here this song in my head.

if people got sick with all the coverage MJ received when he passed away, JUST WAIT and see what happens when all the Beatles are gone.

"i don't see how a handicapped woman has more rights than me!"

I think the part that shocked me the most about this video is the reporter's surprise that these town hall meetings really HAVE been ugly and unfair.

Of course she's not

so it turns out Karrine Steffans is not married. and she abuses her son. and she's like a stripper with a brain. and she's too messed up for even BOBBY BROWN to deal with. and she calls reporters from her cell phone and then hides it under the pillow so they hear the whole thing while she's having sex....are you PROUD of yourself, Tom Brokaw!!

so....do you think this will affect her talking points that she wrote this book because now that she's a married woman with two kids, she has some advice to share on how to find and keep a man???

meh, prolly not.

Friday Songs for Happy Making

Editrix Note: not to imply these are necessarily happy songs. they just happen to make me happy. listener discretion advised.

assholes and pool tables.

how about a little more Us versus Them humor, with a twist of racism and classism?

i stumbled across this juxtaposition earlier on a humor blog. and while i can agree the first video is blood-curdling in it's ridiculousness....the second video made a point i'm not entirely comfortable with laughing about.

the humor blog i found this on describes the next video as such:

This evening (Tosh) had a segment called “Whites Rule”.

Tosh.0Thurs, 10pm / 9c
Reviewing Tosh's Assets

so if this is whiteness, then the earlier video is blackness, right?

i am in now way saying that the actions of the kid in the first video made any sense at all. after a while i was beginning to wonder if he was gonna pull a stack out of his hat and his ass crack.

but what makes this not even funny to me is that in order to really find the second video funny, it seems like you gotta act like something very major and important happened in this country that laid the foundation for the difference in thinking with regards to wealth building, capitalism, and education.

i had almost the same reaction recently while watching a commercial for Lowe's or Home Depot, which showed a WWII era veteran and his family moving into their first home. the commercial showed that through it all, Lowe's has been there for the family.

the veteran and his family in the commercial were white, which isn't too surprising. but what stood out to me is that during that time period, when GIs were coming back from war and were buying homes, there were whole subdivision that would not sell to black GIs. it didn't matter that they had just found for this country, they weren't allowed to live in lovely houses in the suburbs like the whites.

now if i know that, wouldn't you think that someone at the ad agency that made the commercial knew that too?

so all this being said, i think i'll be missing Tosh.0 on Comedy Central. i'm pretty sure his jokes are gonna leave me a little cold.

because it still jams.

i was singing this just last week to Trixie and Dixie. I had no idea it was sung by the Pointer Sisters. Man, my childhood had some bomb-ass moments....*sigh*

horror movie fans! listen up!!

there’s a horror movie that’s gonna come out later called The Sacred. Looks very scaaaaaaaary.

also, i finally saw commercials for one movie I heard about a few months ago called Drag Me To Hell. i noticed they picked the least wack parts of the trailer to make the commercial.

DO NOT BE TRICKED!! THE TRAILER IS HORRIBLE!!

and besides, Derry the Mac Guy is the boyfriend. he ain’t no good! he always makes that same, Disney movie expression of shock. that ain’t emoting, Derry.

that is all.

oh, i don't know, Michael. maybe it IS ok.

especially if the soundtrack to your horrifying moment in modern adolescence happens to be played by a cat wearing a blue dress.

yeap...totally worth it.

Tea Baggers taking to the streets April 15th!!

i found this nice little gem earlier today on Crooks and Liars. i had no idea how much fun tea baggers are. there's an extra warm spot in my heart for the dude who, while talking about Obama, almost said "criminal record" rather than "college record."

*sigh*...he's so dreamy.

it's like it's 1980 all over again!!

when i was small, the commercials for the movie friday the 13th would be enough to scare the lights out of me. i told myself i never wanted to see this movie and hated accidentally thinking about it before i went to sleep.

welp....here we go again!

click the picture for good times.
